Docker is a tool which is designed helps in an easier way to create, arrange, and run the application by using containers. Containers allow a developer to set up an application with all of the parts of ii needs as such libraries, and other needs and ship it all out as one package. It is a tool designed to benefit both developers and system administrators. Docker is an open-source where everyone can contribute, and prolong it to meet their own needs if they need any additional features that are not available out of the box.      

 

Docker 1.0 released on June 9th, during this the first day of Dockercon, it is considered as the first release of Docker stable enough for enterprise use. Along with this launch, a new partnership was announced between Docker and the companies behind libcontainer, the growth of Docker and Linux containers show no sign of slowing, and with new businesses jumping on the bandwagon on a regular basis.

 

Docker is a bit virtual machine. It is been an overall focus on using Docker as a tooling mechanism to improve resource management, process isolation, and security in application virtualization. These efforts have ended with the launch of Project Atomic, a lightweight Linux host which is exactly personalised to run Linux containers. The focus of this project is to make containers easy to deploy, update, and roll back in an environment that requires far fewer resources than a distinctive Linux host.

 

Docker has been designed in a way that it can be combined into most DevOps application, including Puppet, Chef Vagrant, and Ansible, or it can be used in its own way of managing developments environments. The primary selling point is that it simplifies many of the tasks typically done by these other applications. For sure Docker makes it possible to set up local development environments that are exactly like a live server, run multiple development environments from the same host that each have unique software, operating systems, and arrangements, test projects on new or different servers, and allow everyone to work on the same project with the exact same settings, regardless of the local host environment. Finally, Docker can delete the necessity for a development team to have the same versions of everything installed on their local machines.

 

A number of companies and organization are coming together to bring Docker to desktop applications, an achievement that could have wide-ranging on end-users. Microsoft is even jumping on board by bringing Docker to their Azure platform, a development that could possibly make the addition of Linux applications with Microsoft products easier than ever before.

 

The smartness of Docker is that, once the package is done on an application and all its dependencies into a Docker run container, it ensures that will run in any environment. Also, DevOps professionals can build applications with Docker and ensure that they will not interfere with each other. As a result, it can build a container having different applications installed on it and give it to the QA team, which will then only need to run the container to replicate the environment. Therefore, using Docker tools saves time. In addition, unlike when using Virtual Machines, that don’t have to be worried about what platform it is been using – Docker containers work everywhere.

 

Docker is the right tool for simple and painless software development, it is the best containerization platform. The entire Docker toolset is now compatible with windows. This includes the Docker CLI, Docker composes, data volumes and all the other building blocks for Dockerized infrastructures are now compatible with windows. Since all the Docker components are locally compatible with windows, they can run with minimal computational overhead.
